The CFTC warns that precious-metals schemes often target older or pre-retirement investors with safety narratives, inflated prices or excessive fees. Even when dealing with a legitimate business, that is a useful reason to demand written pricing and resist urgency.

A practical decision test

Ask what percentage of retirement assets you are considering moving, what role the metal is expected to play, what the all-in first-year and recurring costs are, and what would cause you to sell. A clear answer to those questions is more useful than a generic claim that everyone needs gold.
